The managing committee of Jamia Masjid affairs said that the authorities once again did not allow Eid-ul-Azha prayers at the Srinagar Eidgah as well as the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar, closed the doors of the mosques and deployed police personnel outside. Traditionally, Eid prayers are offered collectively at the Eidgah.

The management of the historic Jama Masjid stated, ‘Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, Srinagar deeply regrets to inform that the authorities have once again not given permission to offer Eid-ul-Azha prayers at Eidgah as well as the historic Jama Masjid, Srinagar.’

The statement said that the authorities did not even allow the morning (Fajr) prayers. In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Mirwaiz strongly condemned this action of the administration.

Mirwaiz said, ‘Eid Mubarak! Once again Kashmir has to face the sad reality: Eid prayers were not offered at the Eidgah and the Jama Masjid is closed for the seventh consecutive year. I have also been placed under house arrest.’

He said, “Muslims in the Muslim-majority area are denied their fundamental right to not offer namaaz – even on their most important religious occasion celebrated worldwide. What a shame for those who rule us and those elected by the people to remain silent when our rights are repeatedly trampled upon.” The authorities did not respond to the claims made by the Anjuman.
