A YouTuber from Punjab named Jasbir Singh and the operator of the YouTube channel Jaan Mahal were recently arrested for their suspected involvement in a Pakistan-backed espionage group. The Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav notes that Singh had strong links with Pakistani intelligence and regularly interacted with Haryana-based influencer Jyoti Malhotra, who was previously captured over similar offenses.
Jasbir Singh allegedly removed all his digital conversations that he had with his foreign handlers after Malhotra’s arrest. Forensic work is ongoing to recover information from his electronic devices, which have many Pakistan-based contact numbers.
It was revealed that Singh from Mahlan village had contact with Shakir, also known as Jutt Randhawa, a Pakistani Intelligence Operative (PIO) connected to terrorist espionage networks. More evidence was found showing his connection to Ehsan-ur-Rahim, who used the alias Danish and was dismissed from the Pakistan High Commission in India for espionage on May 13.
As per DGP Yadav, Jasbir Singh met with Pakistani military officials and vloggers from his country during the Pakistan National Day function held in Delhi by Danish. Youtuber Singh went to Pakistan on three occasions, in 2020, 2021, and 2024, which raised questions about his activities between countries.
A case has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell in Mohali, and more work is being done to track down all other members involved in the wider conspiracy.
This action against the individuals took place after the Pahalgam terror attack and increased military tensions with Pakistan, showing the nation’s increased worry about such security breaches.
