Manipur Tension: Tension has once again arisen in the northeastern state of Manipur, which has been burning in the fire of violence for the last two years. People are angry over the removal of the state’s name from the bus network. On Sunday, hundreds of protesters marched towards the Raj Bhavan on the controversial issue related to the identity of the state. Security forces tried to stop the protesters near Kangla Gate, which led to clashes and tear gas shells were fired, in which more than five women were injured. This demonstration was held on the call of COCOMI (Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity).
The protesters said that the governor is disregarding the sentiments of the people by his silence. He and his administration have insulted the historical and cultural heritage of the state while administering the state. The inquiry commission formed by the government to investigate the incident is not enough and nothing has been mentioned about punishing those involved, which is unacceptable.
COCOMI has warned that if immediate action is not taken on the issue, a massive agitation will be launched across the state. The protesters took out a 500-metre long march from Khwairamband area of Imphal, but were stopped about 150 metres before the Raj Bhavan. After this, the situation became tense and the police used force to disperse the crowd.
