Surajpur: Two people in the Bhatgaon region lost ₹10.5 lakh after falling for a false promise to double their money in what appears to be financial fraud. According to the police, BJP leader Irfan Ansari and his associate Vikendra Jagane have been arrested over the scam.
Based on the two victims’ complaint, the suspects promised to increase their investment in a short time, says the complaint. After the offer, the victims paid ₹10.5 lakh in 2024. Even after not getting the results promised, the couple went to the police station in Bhatgaon and lodged a complaint.
During their investigation, the police found that BJP Leader Irfan Ansari and Vikendra Jagane deceived both complainants as well as a number of others in similar ways. It was discovered that the accused used a carefully made plan to promise people high returns on their investments, which turned out to be false.
Using what they had learned, the police performed a raid and captured both Ansari and Jagane. The accused said during interrogation that they carried out the fraud while pretending to help people double their investments. After they admitted their guilt, authorities took a laptop and mobile phones from the accused as electronic evidence.
The authorities are looking over the recovered materials and devices to discover extra evidence and name other possible victims. The case shows that financial scams are becoming more common as they target people who desperately want money fast. The investigation is not over, so police have advised everyone to be wary of other fraudulent scams.
