Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has added to political controversy by saying that ₹5 crore in cash, intended as a bribe for members of a state assembly committee, was recovered from seniors in their party. Leaders from the party claim that cash was discovered in room 102 of a government guest house in Dhule on Wednesday. According to reports, the room was booked as Kishor Patil, who helps Arjun Khotkar, chairperson of the state assembly’s estimates committee.

The committee planned to look at how funds were used in the Dhule district, and Shiv Sena (UBT) alleges that members of the ruling party tried to bribe the committee for their own gain. Sanjay Raut said that Shiv Sena members, including Anil Gote, learned of the money first and secured the room before calling the police. Nevertheless, Jen said it took hours for the police to respond, and the original report was registered late.

Raut asked Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to launch an open investigation and recommended that the Anti-Corruption Bureau review the case. The issue has to be investigated right away, he added.

On the other hand, Arjun Khotkar, from the Shiv Sena’s pro-Shinde camp, said the accusations were politically motivated. She said it was likely that the currency was planted to damage the committee’s image and insisted on having a separate probe to confirm the truth.

At the same time, Sudhir Mungantiwar from the BJP demanded a full investigation, saying he was surprised by the alleged discovery of so much money. He suggested taking action to protect the credibility of lawmaking bodies and bring back people’s trust in legislative committees.
