A 23-year-old woman, Anuradha, was arrested in Bhopal for allegedly fooling at least 25 men into marriage through a planned fraud, Sawai Madhopur police said on Wednesday. She was arrested in Bhopal on May 18 after going there to hide following her latest marriage.

The SHO of Mantown police station, Sunil Kumar, said Anuradha carried out fraudulent marriages in several states. In each instance, she allegedly pretended to be a bride, married unaware men, took their belongings, including cash, jewellery, and phones, and then disappeared.

The victim, Vishnu Gupta, first reported the scam on May 3. He affirmed that Sunita and Pappu Meena meshed with him, during which they claimed to know willing brides. They displayed her photograph to him, convinced him to agree to marriage, and took ₹2 lakh before they helped him marry. Last month, they got married, but Anuradha vanished a week after, carrying away the dowry and other valuables.

Investigators discovered that Anuradha was involved in several other cases of a similar sort. Police found out that she belonged to a larger group in Bhopal that organized fake marriages. They picked men searching for brides, introduced them to photos of women such as Anuradha, and required money ranging from ₹2-5 lakh to organize a fake wedding.

It was discovered when police fake marriage organizers were handed Anuradha’s photo as a suggested bride among others. For this reason, they were able to hunt her down and detain her. Authorities are investigating further into the group responsible for the con.
