SpiceJet on Tuesday said that it has rescheduled to operate Haj 2025 flights from Srinagar post the re-opening of the city’s airport for civilian flights on 14-5-2025. Initially, the airline will fly two wide-body Airbus A340 aircraft from Srinagar to Medina, each having a seating capacity of 324 passengers.

Srinagar had been temporarily closed to civilian air traffic from 32 airports in India because of the recent military war between India and Pakistan. The war had been further aggravated after the Pahalgam attack. The closure was one of the security precautions on a nationwide basis, but following the stabilization and clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the operations resumed on Monday.

Officially, SpiceJet confirmed that it will facilitate the journey of almost 15,500 Hajj pilgrims in the year 2019. The flight resumption from Srinagar is a major logistics move towards allowing pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir to continue their religious journey without any hiccup.

Earlier this month, the airline had implemented plans for 45 Haj flights in the first phase of its operations. These flights are to be implemented to link Gaya, Srinagar, Guwahati, and Kolkata to Medina and Jeddah, two holy cities in Saudi Arabia.

“SpiceJet is proud to serve this great religious pilgrimage with reliable direct flights and secure the comfort and safety of all passengers”, the airline said in its release statement.

The move is part of general measures to restore normalcy in the world of aviation and ensure that the all-important lifeline is available for one of the most important annual religious pilgrimages of the Indian Muslims.
