Shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Monday about Operation Sindoor carried out against terrorists based in Pakistan, 10 to 12 drones were intercepted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba. The Hoshiarpur administration in Punjab confirmed that explosions were heard.
Visuals from the Samba district showed red trails in the sky and sounds of explosions, as India’s air defence system activated to intercept flying objects. However, government officials have yet to confirm the timeline of the drone sightings.

Following the development, a complete blackout was enforced, including Punjab’s Pathankot, Amritsar and Hoshiarpur districts. Officials said electricity has also been switched off in some areas of Jalandhar.
Punjab shares a 553-kilometre border with Pakistan. An air-raid siren was sounded in Amritsar, which lies along the border. “We are alert. We are enforcing a blackout,” Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said in a message and urged people to stay away from windows.
The Armed Forces on Monday held another comprehensive press briefing on India’s ongoing Operation Sindoor and reiterated that India’s fight was and will always be aimed at terrorists and terrorists’ infrastructure in Pakistan, and not against the country’s army.
The army also informed the citizens that all of India’s military bases were secured, fully operational and prepared to take on any threat against the country.
