In the backdrop of mounting tensions along the border between India and Pakistan, authorities in Gujarat’s Jamnagar district have issued an urgent advisory urging people to stay in their houses. The district administration issued warning sirens over the area after the Jamnagar Air Force Station raised alerts about the possible air attack. District Collector Ketan Thakkar appealed to citizens to find shelter in safe places and refrain from non-essential movement. Owners of businesses were told to close their shops for the day. Thakkar also decreed a mandatory blackout from Saturday 8 PM to Sunday 6 AM, as a preventive measure. He reassured the public that the administration will be ready to handle all emergencies and protect civilian life.

This is soon after similar advisories were made in the Gujarat Bhuj region, where people were told to shelter in homes because Pakistani drones had been spotted above Kutch and Banaskantha districts. Kutch district collector Anand Patel appealed to citizens to abide by the administration’s instructions and join in the voluntary blackout in a statement. There is no reason to panic. They stay in their homes and prevent unnecessary movement,” he said through social media.

The Indian Armed Forces successfully neutralised at least five drones by the Pakistani forces in the Kutch district alone after they posed a threat. Officials reported one drone shot down by the Naliya Air Force Station, but also three units intercepted and destroyed by air defence units at the Bhuj Air Force Base. A fifth armed drone was shot down by L-70 anti-aircraft guns on the outskirts of Adipur.

To negate the threat, the armed forces used sophisticated radar surveillance systems and anti-aircraft warfare in identifying and neutralizing hostile aerial incursions. The measures form part of the increased security activity along the India-Pakistan border, targeting the security of the civilian population and national assets.
