In severing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pakistan Army’s said Thursday that India has carried out drone strikes on several principal Pakistani cities including Karachi and Lahore. The airstrikes were made on military establishments, and strategic areas using Israeli-made Harop drones, according to military spokesperson Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.

Chaudhry in a press briefing at General headquarters in Rawalpindi said “Last night, India showed another act of aggression by sending drones at multiple places.” According to him, one of the drones managed to strike a military target in Lahore, injuring four Pakistani soldiers. He added that India had transgressed Pakistan’s airspace several times before warning that such “naked aggression” would not remain unavenged. In his statement, he says, “India will continue to pay dearly for this aggression.

It is said that the drone strikes followed a string of missile attacks against Indian armed forces conducted under ‘Operation Sindoor’ on early Wednesday. The operation went after nine terror infrastructure facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including Jaish-e-Mohammad’s stronghold in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base in Muridke. These strikes were straightforwardly attributed to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmanden killing 26 civilians.

The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority took a step in response to the latest developments announcing that they will temporarily close Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport by 6 p.m. local time. Airports in Islamabad and Lahore were also closed for a short period for what officials described as “operational purposes.”

An official statement has also been issued by the Indian Army across the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, confirming that they have thwarted the attempts made by Pakistan to escalate the situation.

As tensions continue to rise and the two sides step up security at the Line of Control and international boundary, the international observers paid keen attention to signs of further military escalations.
