In a terrible accident on Thursday morning, a helicopter passenger was crashed in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi, claiming six lives, including the pilot. The only survivor is injured, and he is under treatment.
The helicopter was traveling from Dehradun to the Harsil helipad when it was carrying tourists who were to later travel by road from Harsil to Gangnani, which is about 30 kilometers away. Among the deceased, five female tourists – Kala Soni (61), Vijaya Reddy (57) and Ruchi Aggarwal (56) from Mumbai; Radha Aggarwal (79) from Uttar Pradesh; and Vedavati Kumari (48) from Andhra Pradesh. (3, 16) The pilot Robin Singh (60) was from Gujarat, and he also met his death in the crash.
Bhaskar (51) from Andhra Pradesh is the sole survivor. He got injured in the crash and is being treated in the hospital.
After the accident, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, offered his condolences and sorrow to the bereaved families through a social media post. “May God bless the souls of the deads in that accident and give brigthness to the bereaved families to cope with that much loss,” he wrote. He added that the administration has been instructed to offer every possible assistance to the injured, and a thorough examination of the crash. The Chief Minister also said that he is in regular contact with officials and is keeping a close eye on the situation.
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, along with the district administration, rushed down to the site of the crash to provide rescue and relief operations. The District Magistrate of Uttarkashi also came to the scene. The cause of the crash is unknown and still to be investigated.
