Bijapur: Unfortunately, three policemen were killed and many others were injured in a landmine blast in the Mulugu district of Telangana. The explosion took place in a wooded area near Venkatapuram, the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border region. The Maoists plotted the explosion just when the security forces were to carry out a routine combing process that is routine.
This attack is coming at a time when security forces are in the midst of an extensive anti-Maoist operation referred to as “Operation Kagar”, undertaken on an unprecedented scale by the forces on the borders of Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. The operation is to flush out Maoist insurgents from the last of their strongholds on the dense hills of Karregutta. The security forces have positioned themselves strategically in the region, from several angles, closing in like a noose on the militants.
One can see the severity of this operation from the level of involvement and watchfulness from the high ranks of officials. CRPF Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh has been monitoring from Delhi. There is an on-ground supervision conducted by senior officials such as Chhattisgarh ADG (Naxal Operations), Vivekanand Sinha, CRPF IG Rakesh Aggarwal, and Bastar IG P. Sundarraj.
Compared to ten years ago, Maoists in India are fewer in number and weakened due to the ongoing efforts of elite forces like DRG, COBRA, CRPF, and STF, who are highly involved in this dangerous mission and are answering the Maoist challenge with bravery and accuracy. The landmine explosion is an alarming development by the insurgents, which highlights the dangers and costs to lives for security personnel during the operations.
Authorities have made a promise to pursue and ensure that the perpetrators face justice. The event has emerged as a matter of concern and grief in the entire region, while strengthening the resolve of the forces to bring to an end the influence of Maoists in the region forever.
