Indian Army Havildar Jhantu Ali Sheikh lost his life in a shootout with terrorists while performing duties in Udhampur district of Jammu & Kashmir earlier this month so Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Murshidabad on Tuesday to support his family members.
Chief Minister Banerjee announced that Shahnaz Sheikh, widow of Indian Army Havildar Jhantu Ali Sheikh, would receive employment as a home guard with the Krishnanagar Police District. She extended complete support to the grieving family and pledged ongoing state government backing through the upcoming months. Tehatta resident Jhantu Ali Sheikh dedicated his life to serving the country while stationed at Krishnanagar. “His bravery makes us proud, and we honour him with admiration.” Banerjee declared that Shahnaz Sheikh would assume home guard duties and that the government would cover her children’s educational expenses.
The West Bengal government extended financial compensation totalling ₹10 lakh to the family and provided both job opportunities and educational benefits. The Chief Minister marked nationwide care for national sacrifice as a fundamental administrative responsibility. She stated she would stay accessible to the family both in her role as the state leader and as an extended family member.
CM Banerjee spends two days in Murshidabad district while conducting meetings with people who endured the communal attacks from last month. Her visit highlights the government’s commitment to giving efficient assistance and support to everyone affected by violent incidents, both during war and civil unrest.
Good responses from the community demonstrate West Bengal’s dedication to both honouring military service members and offering support to their families.
