J&K govt announces Rs 10 lakh compensation to families of Pahalgam terror attack victims

On Tuesday, 22nd April, a horrific attack took place in the Baisaran Valley of the Pahalgam area, where heavily armed terrorists opened fire on a group of civilians, most of them tourists.

The devastating incident left 28 tourists dead and several others injured.

On Wednesday, 23 April, The Jammu and Kashmir government announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for families of those who lost their lives in the terror attack.

The government will also grant Rs 2 lakh to those seriously injured and Rs 1 lakh to others who sustained injuries.

Union Home minister Amit Shah met with the families in Srinagar and paid his respect by laying a wreath during a solemn ceremony.

The attack, which occurred in Anantnag District, marked one of the most significant terror incidents in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, with Army and J&K Police combing nearby areas, while security has been tightened in tourist zones and an investigation is underway.
