In a major break through in the drive against the organized crimes, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police in coordination with Tarn Taran Police has today arrested Sukhbir Singh, the main accused in the brutal murder of Sarpanch Bachittar Singh. Bikkar village of Tarn Taran district in September 2024 was the place of crime.
Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, announced the arrest on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “In a breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on organised criminal networks, Anti Gangster Task Force (#AGTF) Punjab, in a joint operation with @TarnTaranPolice arrests Sukhbir Singh, prime accused in the heinous murder of Sarpanch Bachittar Singh @ Bikkar in September 2024.”
The DGP also stated that Sukhbir Singh is associated with a criminal history, as he has been a habitual offender with a criminal history in the NDPS Act, Arms Act and multiple snatching cases. The FIR was registered at PS Sarhali, Tarn Taran, where he was wanted. Police have begun further investigation to trace his associates and find out the full extent of his criminal act.
Saying that @PunjabPoliceInd is committed to bringing justice to victims and upholding the welfare and security of the state, the DGP said.
Earlier, in a separate joint operation, AGTF and Faridkot Police had apprehended Manpreet Singh, alias Manni, a close associate of the foreign bases gangster Gaurav alias Lucky Patyal and the Davinder Bambiha gang. Faridkot was where he was caught after a brief skirmish in which he was wounded. An important accused in the February 19 murder at Village Kapura, Moga, and in the February 26 firing at Raja Dhabha in Jagraon, Manpreet is.
Punjab Police’s aggressive pursuit of organised crime networks in the state has taken a significant stride with these arrests.
