New Delhi: Tahawwur Rana, one of the main conspirators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, has requested the special court in Delhi that there should not be any lawyer in his case who tries to gain name and fame through him. After Rana’s formal arrest at around 10 pm on Thursday, he was produced by the NIA in the special NIA court at Patiala House. The investigating agency had sought 20 days of custody, but the court approved 18 days of custody. During this period, Rana will be interrogated at the NIA headquarters.

Special NIA Judge Chander Jeet Singh noted in his order, “The accused has requested that there should be no lawyer in his case who aspires to gain name and fame. Though legal services lawyers have been appointed under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, this demand of the accused is accepted.”

The court has ordered that legal services lawyers will not interact with any kind of media, whether it is print, digital or electronic. Along with this, if the information of the lawyers is not already known to the media, then it will not be allowed to be shared.

An NIA spokesperson said at 2:10 am that Tahawwur Rana was formally arrested and produced before a special court. He will be kept in custody for 18 days at the NIA headquarters, where the agency will conduct intensive interrogation about the conspiracy of the 2008 horrific terrorist attacks. The attack killed 166 people and injured more than 238 people.
