New Delhi: A 28-year-old Air India Express pilot who recently got married, died of cardiac arrest. “We deeply regret the loss of a valued colleague due to a medical condition. Our thoughts are with the family during this time of profound grief. We are extending all possible assistance to them as we all cope with this tremendous loss,” an Air India Express spokesperson said in a statement.
“We request all concerned to respect privacy at this time and avoid unnecessary speculation while we commit to assisting the relevant authorities in due process,” the spokesperson added.
In February, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had proposed a phased roadmap to introduce stricter limits on when and how long pilots can fly to minimise fatigue among air crew in a submission to Delhi high court.
This is the second day Air India is making heading. Earlier on Wednesday, Air India shared an incident from an unruly passenger peeing on another passenger on flight to Thailand. The airline issued a statement confirming the incident and said that the crew followed all the laid-down procedures after the alleged offence happened.
“Air India confirms that an incident of unruly passenger behaviour was reported to the cabin crew operating flight AI2336, from Delhi to Bangkok, on 9 April 2025. The crew followed all laid down procedures, and the matter has been reported to the authorities,” it said in the statement.
Air India stated that the accused passenger was warned by the crew, and the victim of the incident, who is said to be an employee of a prominent multinational company, was assisted in taking up the grievance with Bangkok authorities.
