Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is emerging as a major political development. The MP MLA court has issued a bailable warrant against the Chief of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), Jitu Patwari. This was in reference to a controversial comment by the Congress leader during the ongoing poll campaigning. The case has been set for a hearing on May 8.
The issue stems from a statement by Jitu Patwari that BSP candidate Devashish had an understanding or secret alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BSP heavily objected to Patwari’s comments and initiated legal action.
After the allegation, BSP official Ashok Gupta filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Umri Police Station in Bhind district against Jitu Patwari. In the FIR, it was alleged that the statement of Patwari was defamatory and politically motivated with the intention of misleading the people and tarnishing the image of the BSP candidate.
PCC Chief Jitu Patwari, since the complaint, became an accused in the warrant. The MP-MLA court, however, took cognizance of the matter and issued a bailable warrant of Rs 500 against the Congress state president. Patwari has to appear before court, otherwise he would be taken to further action legally speaking.
The high political heat in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the general elections has been ratcheted up with this case. As the next court date is set as May 8, both legal developments and their impact on Patwari’s political campaign and the Congress party’s image in the state will be in focus.
