Meerut: A day after pregnancy tests confirmed that Meerut murder accused Muskan Rastogi, accused of savagely murdering her husband Saurabh Rajput, is expecting a child, the victim’s family has said it is willing to adopt as well as raise the baby only if the child’s father is proven to be Saurabh.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Ashok Kataria said Monday that Muskan was examined due to indications of her pregnancy through a preliminary medical check. Both Muskan and Sahil Shukla, who are alleged to be her accomplice and lover, are lodged in separate barracks of Meerut District Jail. Stifling measures have been taken by prison authorities so the two couldn’t communicate with each other.
And yet Muskan’s family has said nothing public, making no comments or reaction. Saurabh’s brother Bablu Rajput, who spoke to reporters Tuesday, stated that “if the child is Saurabh’s, we will adopt and the child will live with us.” The emotional turmoil and complex situation now engulfing both families are reflected in his statement.
The state of Uttar Pradesh has been jolted by the murder case. Muskan and Sahil allegedly drugged Saurabh Rajput on March 4 and then brutally stabbed him to death. In a chilling aftermath, the duo dismembered his body and hid the remains in a cement-filled blue drum inside their residence.
Sahil’s grandmother, Pushpa, visited him on Monday, the jail authorities told reports. Yet there’s nothing from Muskan’s own side, perhaps as a sign of distancing from her family after the revelations.
Authorities will continue DNA testing of Muskan’s unborn child and decide if that child’s future will depend on who is its father.
