Patna: ED, on Friday, announced that fresh raids in connection with an ongoing money laundering probe involving Bihar IAS officer Sanjeev Hans yielded an amount of seizure of cash of ₹11.64 crore. The searches on Thursday were carried out at seven different places in Patna to probe allegations of corruption and bribery associated with different tenders and government contracts.
The dusk raid involved high-ranking government officials of Bihar Construction Department Chief Engineer Tarini Das, Bihar Finance Department Joint Secretary Mumukshu Chaudhary, and Bihar Urban Development and Housing Department Executive Engineer Umesh Kumar Singh, an official statement from ED told.
Further searches were carried out at the premises of Ayaz Ahmed, Deputy Project Director, Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (BUIDCO); Sagar Jaiswal, Deputy General Manager at Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Ltd (BMSICL), as well as Vikash Jha, another Deputy General Manager in BMSICL; and Saket Kumar, Executive Engineer, Bihar Construction Department.
The ED has alleged these officials were among the recipients of bribe money in exchange for favorable outcomes of tenders and clearance of bills projects. Among the contractors named in the probe is another businessman, Rishu Shree of Patna, with whom the officials are allegedly in contact on financial matters.
The searches, however, have resulted in the seizure of ₹11.64 crore in cash, papers related to property, and those mentioning the alleged distribution of bribe money. The ED also mentioned that in addition to this, various other incriminating documents and digital evidence were recovered.
The ED has made allegations about none of the officials or their legal representatives yet. It is spearheading its probe for more facts on the bribery network and financial irregularities in Bihar government departments.
