During the state assembly proceedings on Wednesday, Maharashtra minister Shambhuraj Desai made it clear that anybody guilty in the case of Disha Salian’s death would not be spared. When Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad raised the issue in the House under a ‘Point of Information’ and asked whether the government was taking steps after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray was accused in the matter, his remarks came.
Desai addressed the assembly and said, “And whether to resign on moral grounds is a question that is to be decided by him and his party. As the government, however, I want to state that no one shall be spared if guilty. We will also demand a detailed report from the Mumbai police commissioner on the allegations that were made against Salian’s death and forward it to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating the case now.”
Mumbai police ruled Disha Salian’s death in June 2020, an accident after she worked as a celebrity manager. However, her father has continued to make serious claims against Aaditya Thackeray, including saying he was ‘directly involved’ in her death. Now, the focus has been renewed on the case and there have been political tensions in Maharashtra.
Like past political actions, Sanjay Gaikwad stated that Aaditya Thackeray should resign. When then-minister Dhananjay Munde’s close aide was accused of the December 2024 murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, he demanded Munde’s resignation. Gaikwad demanded that the Speaker of the House also take such action against Thackeray, saying that he must be held accountable and fairly, irrespective of political affiliations.
