Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Health Department confirmed that two more COVID recovered patients succumbed to death on Friday after contracting black fungus infection. The Health authorities said, more than 100 cases of Black Fungus were detected in the state. The State administration has plans to declare black fungus a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Disease Act.
The patient was being treated at Raipur AIIMS. Giving details of the deceased the hospital staff informed that the 70-year-old patient had undergone surgeries of eye and the brain after the fungal infection affected the tissues. Another death was reported from Bhilai at a private hospital in Raipur. The 56-year-old woman was admitted as she complained of dyspnoea and presented signs of the fungal infection.
Speaking for the government, Health minister TS Singh Deo said, “The process of inclusion in the epidemic list is underway. The opinion of the Law Department was sought on this. The notification will be issued as soon as it is received.” Stressing on the occurrence of the diseases, he informed that “this epidemic doesn’t spread from human to human.”
So far, the state health bulletin reported 102 black fungus cases being treated in the state. Out of these 78 patients are admitted in Raipur AIIMS, 23 patients in Durg.
The Raipur CMHO created a surveillance cell which includes 12 experts who will follow up with COVID recovered patients , assess their complaints and provide them medical aid.
