Raipur: The Chhattisgarh state government under Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai has taken up a new chapter of economic and industrial growth from a transparent mining policy, e-auctions, digital monitoring, and environment friendly mining strategies and is making continuous efforts in this direction. The result has been a historical surge of mineral revenue to the state. In comparison to the era when the state came into existence, mineral revenue has multiplied 30 times in the years 2023-24 with an income of a whopping Rs 13,000 crore. Moreover, the success of transparent policies as well as efficient governance is reflected by the fact that in just the time period from April 2024 to February 2025, the state has already collected Rs 11,581 crore from mineral revenues.
Under the e-auction of mineral blocks, 44 mineral blocks have been so far sold successfully in Chhattisgarh, according to sources. Blocks in the list contain 14 blocks of limestone, 9 blocks of iron ore, 11 blocks of bauxite, 3 blocks of gold, 2 blocks of nickel-chromium, 2 blocks of graphite, 2 blocks of glauconite, 1 block of lithium. It signifies a significant step in the management and development of mineral resources and the economy.
As a response to a national focus on critical and strategic minerals for economic and defense development, the Government of India proposed the National Critical Mineral Mission in January 2025. According to this, Chhattisgarh itself has begun to explore such critical minerals since 2024-25. There are 31 critical and deep-seated mineral exploration projects out of 56 underway.
The state has so far managed to sell 10 critical minerals blocks; one of them is a lithium block, three are for gold blocks, two are for nickel-chromium blocks, two are for graphite blocks, and two are for glauconite blocks. The country also saw its first-ever successful auction of a lithium mineral block for the Katghora block in Korba district, which was given to M/s South Myky Mining Company on the back of a premium of 76%. Extension works in the Sukma and Korba districts are in deep progress, with a fairly good chance to dig out more lithium reserves.
