Box office powerhouse Chhaava dethrones Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan as the ninth highest grossing Hindi film of all time and replaces Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic. The Laxman Utekar directed film continues to hold its ground and is still going strong in its fifth week, against the backdrop of some new releases opening up.
According to industry trackers, Chhaava earned around ₹4 crore on its fifth Thursday in theatres. The film also had a turnaround on Friday, registering ₹7.25 crore in India while its Telugu version added on to the total. Pathaan was knocked out of that effigy by the box office with its nett domestic collection now standing at ₹543 crore.
Despite dropping 6.25% on the earnings, Chhaava bounced back in a big way. Despite the release of John Abraham’s The Diplomat, which did the business of 4 crore plus on its release day, Chhaava was able to retain its audience interest. The Hindi version on Friday had earned ₹6.5 crore, while the Telugu version on the same day contributed with ₹75 lakh. On the other hand, the movie also saw a wider occupancy rate of 28.35 per cent in the Hindi market while the Telugu market recorded 22.84 per cent.
Using occupancy figures, the morning began at 11.20% in Hindi and 16.54% in Telugu and subsequently had further build ups as the day went on. Occupancy then went up to 29.96% in the afternoon and 25.50% in the evening, and in the evening shows, peaked up to 40.59% in general, 22.45% after 8:00. Owing to this, Night screenings recorded a strong attendance again with 31.65% in Hindi and 25.50% in Telugu.
At home, Chhaava is now only a run away from ₹550 crore, needing just a few crores to cross the figure. Animal (₹553.87 crore) stands at 8th Hindi release. Animal is expected to be surpassed this weekend by the movie and then Salman Khan’s Sikandar. Chhaava is all set to become the biggest hit of the year on the global front, as it is poised to cross the ₹750 crore mark soon.
