New Delhi: India recorded 4,194 COVID-19 related deaths on Friday, raising the total number of fatalities to 2,95,560. The Union Health Ministry confirmed 2,57,299 new infections across the country in the past 24 hours, meaning so far 2.62 crore people have contracted the disease. Of the total number of cases, 29,18,353 remain active and 3,57,554 recuperated.
Tamil Nadu health bulletin observed an increase in daily deaths adding 467 cremations in the last 24 hours. This was the highest rise the state witnessed so far. In the meanwhile, Karnataka and Kerala announced the extension of restrictions from the said date. As per the new order, Karnataka has extended the lockdown till June 7 while Kerala till 30 May.
The National capital reported a drop in its positivity rate below 5%. The state has been under lockdown since April 19 and is pushing against the tough situations arising due to a shortage of essential COVID supplies. The state registered 3,009 new coronavirus cases and 252 COVID-linked deaths in the last 24 hours.
The centre deployed an advisory to states on Mucormycosis to ” Ensure robust practices of infection prevention and control and sanitation and hygiene in hospitals for prevention and control of secondary and opportunistic fungal infections,” the centre said. The Health Ministry is making conscious efforts to significantly ramp up domestic production of Amphotericin-B drug for Mucormycosis treatment. The ministry stated,”
“The Union Ministry of Health along with the Department of Pharmaceuticals and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is making proactive efforts for significantly ramping up domestic production of Amphotericin-B drug.”
On the vaccination front, more than 19.32 crore people have been immunized so far. In the 18-44 age group, over 92.7 people have been vaccinated, stated the Union Health Ministry.
