Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was involved in not visiting the SLBC tunnel collapse site in Nagarkurnool district, where eight workers have been stuck since Feb 22, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) said Thursday.
Authorities are contending with rescue attempts that include the Army, Navy, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and specialized rat miners who are trying to reach the trapped individuals. KTR claimed that the state government was not handling the crisis well and was not taking any urgency to bring normalcy to the crisis-prone area.
As reported by a news agency, KTR said, “They have just gone in blindly without any due consultation with the Geological Survey of India (GSI) or any other such engineering department. We have trucked our results and run a risk with the lives of eight people who are trapped there. No one knows if anyone alive or dead, the chief minister continues to indulge in election campaigns and Delhi trips with no fear of their souls. Among them was not even visiting the site. That was his sincere and serious behavior.”
The criticism comes as the world puts pressure on the government to step up rescue efforts. Several opposition leaders and social activists have also asked whether the administration was ready and waiting long enough to tackle the disaster.
Nevertheless, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B Mahesh Kumar Goud came to the defence of Revanth Reddy, adding that the chief minister has been monitoring the situation closely. “With the CM managing the rescue operations every single minute from February 22 itself, coordinating with the concerned officials for the safe retrieval of the trapped workers, the CM has always been right on the ball throughout this loud affair,” Goud.
Waiting for news that will bring a positive outcome, the families of the trapped workers are anxiously awaiting the results of what has turned into one of the state’s most challenging rescue operations to date.
