Singrauli: The two workers trapped under debris while working on the construction of the drain in the Nawanagar police station area of Singrauli were rescued successfully after a five-hour-long operation. Rohit Vaishya has been found alive, and the other worker Ramkesh Pandu suffered a critical injury and was taken for treatment at the district hospital. But the Pandu family members thought the worst might have happened and alleged that he died of his injuries on the scene, sparking a heated situation at the site.
The incident took place in the evening when, due to the construction of the under-construction drain, a plate of the drain collapsed, burying the two workers in the soil at Amlohri Mahua Morh. District administration officials, local representatives, and a large crowd of villagers assembled at the site upon getting information. The authorities deployed Five JCB machines to remove the debris, and a cruel rescue operation took nearly five hours.
The district administration, headed by the Collector and Superintendent of Police, had assured that no one had died till now. The injured worker was taken to the hospital for treatment, and they assured remained in the condition that they would be evaluated upon arrival. Meanwhile, a few of the police personnel who took part in the rescue operation got minor injuries.
This is not the first incident of its kind in the district. Concern has also been voiced about monitoring and inadequate work by contractors due to previous accidents on construction projects. Officials have now assured an impartial investigation.
Strict actions will be taken upon those found responsible (particularly upon proven negligence for the contractor), but if found responsible and do not pay, then the completed measurement must be completed by the contractor, and the infringement made with the loss of the consumer electricity bill earnings paid for by the utility companies Bureau. They have also promised to clamp down on projects to guard against such tragedies in the future.
