Jabalpur: In Madhya Pradesh, the Lokayukta police take their stringent action against the corrupt officials and employees. However, despite such efforts, cases of bribery remain rampant. It is the latest incident coming from Jabalpur district in which a health department clerk was found accepting a bribe of ₹3,300. Reports state that the investigation underway at the time of writing was still ongoing.

The matter involved Ravi Bohat, who was arrested for taking a bribe to facilitate an operation at Moti Nala Maksuda Urban Primary Health Center. The Lokayukta team laid a trap and caught the clerk actually on the job. Legal proceedings under different sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act have been initiated against the accused after his arrest.

Officials and employees were plunged into an emergency as panic shook the department with this incident. It also exposes the fact that corruption persists in the state, even in the face of the state’s unremitting attempt to end it. Despite the Lokayukta conducting raids and serving upon corrupt officials across several departments, there are still new bribery cases surfacing and scepticism of anti-corruption measures.

Authorities have pledged to take strict action against the accused and continue to investigate to see if other officials are involved. Lokyukta’s operation is a strong message to government functionaries who take bribes, saying that it cannot pay the price.
