Haryana Police on Saturday said a 31-year-old man from Sirsa Haryana, Raj Kumar, was arrested for allegedly cheating people through an online part-time job scam. The case came to light when a person who was promised a very high return on investment lodged an FIR stating that he was cheated of ₹3.30 lakh.

The police said that Kumar earned money by offering the victim a part-time job through social media, posting likings and shares to earn commissions. Initially, the victim was paid small amounts to earn his or her trust. However, once they convinced the victim, they pressured him to invest larger sums into them in return for even greater returns. But after being paid, Kumar and associates have gone silent, locked all communication, shut down social media groups, and have disappeared.

Later, during the investigation, it came to light that during his hacking activities, Kumar had hacked cyber fraud schemes across 23 states, with at least 85 complaints of his hacking activities filed. He had operations in several regions where people were looking for online income opportunities. They think he was part of a bigger network that scammed in a similar way.

An FIR was also registered after the complaint, and an investigation was taken up. Kumar’s movements were tracked by a special police team, and he was spotted in Sirsa, Haryana. In the end, he was apprehended and arrested.

On request of Inspector S.S Yadav from Rouse Avenue POCSO Court, the accused was arrested by the police,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh. His associates are to be further investigated to recover the defrauded money,” magistrates said.

Police have called on the public to be cautious when responding to job offers that call for outright paid work and report whatever suspicious acts.
