On Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, who is an outlier in the BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claimed that power cuts have increased across the city ever since the Bharatiya Janata Party won the assembly elections. At a press conference, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader alleged that in the brief span of three days once AAP was pushed out of power, over 40 power outages were reported from several different parts of the city, leaving the citizens to buy inverters to survive it.
Accusing the BJP of mismanaging the sector in the Delhi power sector, she said the situation could further deteriorate; the situation in Uttar Pradesh, a BJP-ruled state, was witnessing frequent power cuts. “I have got quite a few complaints of power cuts in Delhi in the past three days.” So does this mean that the power sector has begun to collapse within three days? However, according to a news agency quoting Atishi, “the image clearly shows that the administration of Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP under his government was monitoring and supervising the electricity infrastructure on a day-to-day basis.
AAP leader further alleged that the BJP doesn’t have the capacity to handle the distribution of power. But if some quick measures are not taken, she said, Delhi will see lengthy outages, disrupting daily life and jobs.
Atishi also hit out at the new cohort still for not managing the power supply system meticulously that AAP had been honouring over its tenure. “It is a basic necessity, the AAP government ensured uninterrupted power supply in Delhi.” She added: ‘What we are seeing now, now, is just the beginning of the BJP mismanage.
Making these remarks is her while tension in politics is gripping ahead of AAP’s electoral defeat, and the party continues to challenge BJP on its governance decisions. BJP leaders also brushed aside her claims, saying that the supply of power is normal and any reported outages are being fixed promptly.
