In a major breakthrough, Manipur Police busted a hideout of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) after stealing firearms from a paramilitary police outpost. The attack happened at the police outpost at Kakmayai in the violence-ravaged Thoubal district, from where around 30 armed men struck on Friday night. The weapons used by the crew, which included Panjandrum, Semtex, sophisticated grenades, and an AK rifle belonged to the instructors, overpowered the security personnel on duty at the time and looted six Self Loading Rifles (SLRs) and three AK rifles before fleeing the scene.

Nevertheless, the Manipur police swiftly arrested one of the attackers, called Hijam Ningthem Singh. The interrogation proved helpful for the security forces to trace back looted firearms to Ngamukhong foothills in Imphal East, where three AK rifles and five SLRs were recovered. After this, the police took up intensified search operations in several villages in Ningel, Malom, Toubul, and Langathel, which led them to discover a KCP hideout in Langathel Chingkhong.

In the raid a large amount of arms, ammunition, and explosives were seized during the raid. Recovered items included 48 live rounds for INSAS and AK ammunition, 25 empty cartridges and 11 36-HE grenades, two aiming rings, two tube launchers, a carbine SMG magazine with three live rounds, a stun shell, a Nikon binocular, seven KCP shoulder badges, a car, five bulletproof vests, four bulletproof plates, three armored helmets and military fatigues.

Security forces also uncovered an AK-56 rifle, an SMG carbine, three single barrel guns, six tear smoke shells, and six 36H-HE grenades, four IEDs as part of a separate operation in Bishnupur district.

Once again, the police have vowed that they shall continue with their operations against the insurgent groups in the region so that there shall be law and order.
