Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, leveled another attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, accusing him of not acknowledging the deficiencies of his Make in India initiative. Gandhi reacted to Modi’s response to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, accusing the Prime Minister of not mentioning Make in India in his speech.

Gandhi took to social media to write that he was ‘disappointed’ Prime Minister, you did not even mention Make in India! Then he took on the initiative, criticizing it as a good idea that had failed to deliver. He pointed to a steep fall in India’s manufacturing sector from 15.3 percent of India’s GDP in 2014 to 12.6 percent, the lowest in the last 60 years.

Citing the issue of youth unemployment, Gandhi pointed out that, even with the promises made by both the UPA and NDA governments, the country has not been able to generate proper jobs for the country’s youth population. Stressing that India’s youth lack adequate employment opportunities and that no government has been able to think out of the box on this issue, he stated that too much has not been accomplished and more is still required.

The Congress MP Rahul Gandhi added that India’s manufacturing should have a new vision to be reborn as a competitive player in the global economy. Specific emerging technologies — including electric motors, batteries, optics, and artificial intelligence — were the focus that he proposed India should concentrate on preparing for the future of production. Gandhi’s remark was part of his broader attack on the government’s Economic policies, as well as the abysmal job creation and industrial growth.
