Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stressed that the relationship between India and the European Union (EU) is gaining importance as never before. Referring to global volatility and uncertainty, Jaishankar noted the growing importance of the India-EU partnership in his keynote address at the IIC Bruegel Annual Seminar in New Delhi.
With the changing dynamics in international relations, there is a need for a stronger India-EU relationship, which can act as a stabilizing force in a world that is going to be so volatile and uncertain, Jaishankar said. At the same time that India is gaining greater awareness of the rise in strategic awakening in Europe over the recent years, he said it could lead to further engagement between the two parties.
Jaishankar pointed out various areas of ‘working together’ between India and the EU, like defence and security cooperation and technology partnerships, all of which have increased. On the strengthening ties of India and Europe, he commented that these developments are crystal clear indicators of an India-Europe relationship.
Jaishankar also mentioned that the engagement between India and the European Commission has intensified in recent years. These bilateral ties, particularly in trade, defence, and innovation, are strengthening as more nations realize the value of stronger alliances in these areas of flux in international politics.
The minister’s remarks depict India’s intention to have a more robust strategic partner with the EU. The EU is a natural instrument to stabilize the region and add to an order wherein balance and resilience are brought about. A critical relationship is developing between India and the European Union, as the duo continues to foray into coping with evolving global challenges.
