Mumbai: According to officials, a technical issue with the signaling system near the city caused Mumbai local train services on the Central Railway’s main line to be interrupted on Tuesday morning.
Due to an issue that arose on the southbound slow track between the Diva and Mumbra railway stations in the nearby Thane region around 4:55 am, Mumbai’s lifeline, the suburban trains, were running at least 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule.
The chief public relations officer for Central Railways, Swapnil Nila, stated that the signal was set precisely at roughly 6 am, over an hour after the problem arose. Crowds gathered at mainline stations and on the CR’s suburban trains as a result of the incident.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in south Mumbai, Kasara in Thane, and Khopoli and Karjat in Raigad district are the stops along the CR’s main route. According to the report, the Central Railway runs about 1,800 local services per day on its suburban railway network. Every day, around 35 lakh commuters use the main, harbor, trans-harbor, and Belapur-Uran suburban local trains.
On Monday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the interval between suburban locals in Mumbai will be reduced from 180 seconds (3 minutes) to 120 seconds (2 minutes). According to the minister, efforts are also being made to upgrade the air conditioning and ventilation in local trains by utilizing technology like that of Vande Bharat rakes.
