The third and last Shahi Snan of Mahakumbh 2025 was a glorious display of faith and devotion as more than 12.5 lakh devotees took a divine dip in the River Ganga on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami. For this celebration, flower petals were showered on the devotees from helicopters at the holy confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati in present-day Prayagraj.
“The state government is keeping a watch on the arrangements for the grand religious gathering, said Uttar Pradesh Minister AK Sharma,” while speaking to the media. “I have personally inspected the arrangements since Mauni Amavasya. Nearly, 40 million (4 crores) devotees have taken a dip in the sacred river on Basant Panchami. If there is one word which comes to my mind when I have to say what this fair is about, it is the Maha Kumbh of modern and digital India. I was there yesterday to oversee the traffic management and cleanliness protocols to make the experience smooth for the devotees,” he added.
An extraordinary number of pilgrims, saints and Kalpvasis have flocked to the Mahakumbh, considered the largest religious converging in the world. The holy bathing rituals (Aarati) of the Mahakumbh 2025 started a few weeks ago and since then, over 350 million (35 crore) people have participated in it. While there are still 23 days till the end of the Kumbh, the number of devotees participating in this, which is one of the most massive Kumbh congregations ever, is expected to cross the hundred crore mark.
Millions are being drawn by divine energy at Prayagraj as the festival moves along, and that is a reflection of the rich spiritual tradition India is inculcated with. Scores of devotees still make it across the globe to take part in the sacred Amrit Snan before the festival comes to a close.
