Gariaband: Just 14 km away from the district border, the Dharamgarh police have solved a liquor store heist case involving illegally diverted excise stocks of liquor taken by the staff to Bengaluru in trucks. Kalahandi SP G. Abhilash revealed the details of the case which said that eight accused were arrested from Jharkhand. The police have also recovered ₹3.51 crore in cash, the Bolero vehicle used, and weapons which were used in the crime.

However, the investigation found that the master behind the heist was Anuj Kumar, a one-time employee of the liquor shop. A liquor shop manager in Chandho district, Jharkhand dismissed him five months ago and threw him out of the job. Anuj hatched a plan with his associates to execute the robbery in order to take revenge. The well-planned dacoity on 30 January was carried out by them, in which they looted a huge amount of money.

The Kalahandi police after detailed investigations managed to trace out the eight accused and arrest them. Authorities now want to trace the source from which the cash was seized to confirm its legitimacy. Law enforcement agencies in the district on the border where such crimes are likely to take place have been put on high alert.

A more intensive surveillance of the police case, forensic analysis and tracking of suspect movements were the paraphernalia that led to a quick resolution of the case. Consequently, measures of security in liquor stores and businesses dealing with high cash are being strengthened in response to this incident.

Further interrogations and legal proceedings are carried out by ensuring that the criminals are arrested and the evidence secured to see justice done. Kalahandi police’s swift action to bring it back to the people’s trust has been appreciated.
