Durg: The Durg police, on Sunday, conducted a raid in the Talpuri Parijat Colony of Bhilai under the influence of a force of 150 personnel in a major crackdown. The police detained 32 people, four of whom were women, during the operation and took them to the station for questioning.
According to reports, multiple couples were residing in the Parijat Apartment without proper verification, and had received information from the concerned that multiple couples were residing there. When this tip-off was acted upon, the police raided and found a number of suspicious persons. One person was armed among those detained, along with the narcotic substances in others.
Police conducted a search of 1,888 houses in the Parijat Block and over 30 suspects from them detained and sent for further interrogation at Bhilai Nagar Police Station. ASP Abhishek Jha, the operative in charge of the operation, said that all detainees would be verified.
ASP Jha added that the Parijat B Block of Talpuri International Colony had turned into a den for illegal activities. In response to repeated complaints, the police sent six police teams comprising over 150 officers, 10 gazetted officers, and 15 inspectors to launch a huge search operation around 5 AM.
A cause for concern has been the ever-increasing number of tenants in the colony. Some of them are students or working professionals while other criminal elements have taken refuge in rented accommodations. Some landlords have failed in their duty to conduct proper police verification of the tenants and as a result, illicit activities are thriving.
Before, the colony had also been associated with crimes such as counterfeit currency circulation, drug trafficking, and even the trafficking of humans. Young women have also been found living with their boyfriend in a live-in relationship.
It comes in light of the authorities’ efforts to subdue illegal activities and consequently enforce a stricter level of law in the area.
