Prayraj: Over 30 people died, while 60 were injured after a stampede-like incident occurred at Mahakumbh mela being held in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, Mahakumbh DIG Vaibhav Krishna said on Wednesday The stampede took place at the Sangam in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Wednesday as large crowds thronged the ghats for a holy dip on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya amid the ongoing Mahakumbh.
The Chief Minister ordered a judicial inquiry into the accident and constituted a three-member judicial inquiry commission. The chairman of this commission will be former judge Harsh Kumar, while former DG VK Gupta and retired IAS DK Singh have been included in the commission. This commission will submit its report within a time frame. The police will also investigate the matter and the causes of the accident will be investigated in depth. Not only this, on Thursday the Chief Secretary and DGP will also go to Prayagraj and review the incident.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath became emotional while talking to journalists about the Maha Kumbh accident. CM Yogi’s eyes became moist while referring to the incident. He said, this tragic accident happened due to heavy crowd and breaking of barricades. We have to ensure that such a tragedy does not happen again in future.
Chief Minister became emotional and said, despite so many preparations, this accident is very sad. He said that since 7 pm on Tuesday evening, a large number of devotees had reached Prayagraj and were taking bath and a large number were also waiting for Brahma Muhurta. During this time, this accident happened on the Sangam bank on Akhara Marg. This accident happened due to a large crowd breaking the barricades of Akhara Marg and then jumping from it, in which around 30 people have died. 36 injured are undergoing treatment in Prayagraj. The remaining injured have been taken away by their family members.
