The convict in the rape and murder case of an on-duty doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sanjay Roy, stood in the dock claiming a clean bow on Monday as the judge declared the verdict. Of course, the suspect, Roy, who was convicted of the terrible crime on Saturday, had to face a lot of criticism and go through legal processes after the offence that happened in August of the previous year.
It is in court when Roy spoke to the judge, arguing that he was framed and was not involved in raping the doctor or killing her. He alleged that he had been physically and mentally harmed into signing those papers. “I have not touched any girl, neither raped her nor killed her. That is so far from the truth; I am being falsely implicated. You have seen everything. I am innocent. I’ve already informed you that I was tortured. As he explained his side of the story, they compelled me to sign whatever paper they wished,” he defended himself.
The judge countered that by arguing to Roy that the charges that were convicted were the same charges that were proven in court. Unfortunately, the gruesome crime remained on Roy’s record even after he tried to convince the jury of his innocence.
The case that has elicited lots of controversy in society involved the CBI, which has demanded capital punishment for Roy on the grounds that the offence was very barbaric. The dean of the medical college stated that a young doctor was killed by the accused while she was on duty, which infuriated many people.
The trial is now in its last stages with the judge before making a passing judgement and pronouncing a sentence. Even though Roy keeps denying his guilt, the CBI demands the death penalty, which draws attention to the gravity of the crime and the need for justice for the murdered girl. The consequences of this case are liable to have resource impacts on the criminal justice system as well as on the public at large.
