Bhopal: There is new information concerning the relocations of slums in relation to Vallabh Bhavan. The area affecting eight thousand odd families living within a 3-kilometer radius of the area will be shifted to Kotra Sultanabad. The government is prepared to make city-dwelling flats available for these families within the South-West Assembly constituency. The cost of relocating and constructing the flats has been estimated at ₹50 crore per hectare.
A larger proportion of the concentrated slum dwellings is in affluent neighborhoods of the capital with land prices above ₹ 5,000 per sq ft. It is believed that the value of the land owned by the communities in the slums located on government premises is more than 19000 crores. Because of the fact that such lands cost a lot of money, the government is doing all it can to properly handle the relocation process despite the hardships faced by affected families.
The Chief Minister, Dr. Mohan Yadav, has given certain guidelines for constructing houses for each family residing in the slum area right from the spot or near the area. Based on these directives, the government has embarked on the relocation project. The plan is meant to ensure that none of the families affected by the move suffers loss of means of livelihood or disruption of family and community relationships.
The relocation initiative clearly underlines the government action and policy in connection with urbanization and social justice. To this effect, the authorities intend to relocate such families to better housing facilities within the Kotra Sultanabad area to offer them a better standard of living while at the same time surrendering high-value land in advantageous locations. The undertaking of the project will bring about great changes in the physiognomy of the city; structures will be developed, and quality of life will be improved emphatically for the people engaged in the campaigns.
