On Sunday, dense fog covered Delhi-NCR, causing major delays in train schedules on several lines and challenging travel conditions. The city woke to fog with a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius and significantly diminished visibility.

The dense fog affected 47 trains that left Delhi, 41 of which were delayed, some by more than three hours. KIR-ASR Express, Lichchavi Express, Gorkhdham Express, Purushottam Express, Mahabodhi Express, Malwa Express, and Dakshin Express were among the trains that had notable delays. Additionally, the schedules of six trains were revised to accommodate the disruptions.

Dense fog was recorded throughout Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), and the cold period is expected to persist. Light rain or thundershowers are predicted on January 22 and 23, with moderate fog conditions predicted through January 21. Forecasts indicate that midday temperatures may range from 18 to 21 degrees Celsius, while morning temperatures will likely be between 7 and 12 degrees Celsius.

It is recommended that passengers leaving from major stations like New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin use official railway applications and station announcements to keep informed about train schedules in order to avoid any disturbance.

The thick fog has worsened Delhi’s air quality and disrupted train services. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped significantly from Saturday’s rating of 248 to 335, which the Sameer app categorized as “very poor.”

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) recently eased Stage-III limitations under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) because of an earlier improvement in AQI readings, despite the fact that air quality has remained unpredictable.

Travel in areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and eastern Uttar Pradesh is predicted to be disrupted by dense to extremely dense fog that is likely to last through the night and early morning outside the capital. Chilly weather is expected to persist across Rajasthan and northern Madhya Pradesh through the weekend, with maximum temperatures being below normal.

Southern areas, including Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, are also seeing intermittent rainfalls. It is anticipated that scattered thunderstorms may occur throughout the coast of Tamil Nadu, with rainfall intensity increasing over the weekend, particularly in the southern districts.
