A Sealdah court is likely to pass the judgement on Saturday in the shocking rape and murder of a trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The event which had taken place on August 9 last year, left the entire nation in uttermost dismay and provoked much anger. The judgement will be delivered by the judicial officer of the Sealdah court on January 18, a news agency report informed.

The RG Kar case was brought to light when the High Court of Calcutta ordered the police of Kolkata to hand over the case to CBI. The central agency has since then been handling the case, and since then, investigations have been conducted in order to ensure that the perpetrator is dealt with. The CBI has demanded capital punishment for Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer working with the city police, who was charged with the crime. Roy was accused of placing the postgraduate trainee doctor at the state-run hospital in north Kolkata at his sex amenities.

“The victim’s father, was heard hoping for a fair judgment, with the family crying for justice for a long time. Thus, we are expecting a good judgement from the court once all circumstances are closely looked at. This I again vindicated with the help of the final DNA report and disclosed the presence of other accused also. We are pressing claims in two legal jurisdictions, one at the High Court and another one at the Supreme Court,” he said.

It also revealed problems with safety for those in the medical field; however, the major problem was a lack of institutional responsibility. As the judgment is still to be delivered, the case underscores a contemporary battle for justice and social reform. This conviction will be observed all over the country, and many people will eagerly wait to see that true justice prevails and bring an answer that will put a stop to such crimes in the future.
