Another BJP parliamentarian and union minister, Nirmala Sitharam, and several other BJP leaders reacted furiously to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments on the RSS and the BJP. The comments were made by the Prime Minister while inaugurating the Congress Party’s new building, ‘Indira Gandhi Bhawan,’ in Delhi.
In response to Gandhi’s statements, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “This is what the so-called intellectual of the Congress party has to say, go get your mental stability checked.” This emerged after a launch attack by Gandhi on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who earlier suggested that India should mark Independence Day at the consecration of the Ram temple and not on August 15.
During the address, Rahul Gandhi described Bhagwat’s words as ‘traitorous’ and further said the Congress was not coping merely with the BJP or RSS line but the Indian state itself, which, according to him, has been sold by the ruling party. He also alleged that the BJP and RSS were anti-democratic forces in India.
The Union Health Minister JP Nadda also joined the list of people who criticised Gandhi for her remarks. On X (previously Twitter), Nadda claimed that Gandhi unveiled the ‘real’ faces of Congress and labelled him as an urban naxal and deep state operator. As per Nadda the intention of Gandhi was to divide and destroy India’s image on the international forum.
Nadda said, “No more hiding Congress’s ugly truth unveiled this time by none other than their own chief. I ‘compliment’ Mr Rahul Gandhi for stating in unmistakable terms what the nation already knows: that he is waging war against the Indian state!”
The BJP leaders’ caustic reaction is to be understood against the growing hostile political relationship between the ruling party and the Congress following the two parties contesting each other both ideologically and politically.
