Pune: Every year on January 15, we mark Indian Army Day. On this day, the Indian Army was founded, signifying both India’s military independence and the handover of power to Indian leadership after independence. The event promotes a strong sense of patriotism by honoring the valor and sacrifices made by warriors who devoted their lives to the country. Instilling a sense of patriotism in Indians is another goal of this important day.
Indian Army Day parade will take place in Pune, home to the Southern Command Headquarters and the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA). This marks a significant shift from the traditional venue, Delhi, showcasing the army’s reach and presence across the country.
The 77th Army Day celebration has “Samarth Bharat, Saksham Sena” as its theme. The Indian Army will display its cutting-edge equipment and diverse combat strategies at Delhi’s Cariappa Parade Ground. There will be parades, ethnic dances, military drills, and other activities in addition to the exhibitions.
Defence Minister, Rajnath SIgh extended his wishes on social media account on X. “On Army Day 2025, greetings and warm wishes to our valorous Indian Army personnel and their families. The Indian Army is known for its courage, bravery, sacrifice, and professionalism. Their unwavering commitment to protect the nation and help the citizens during natural calamities is laudable. Every Indian is grateful to the Indian Army for their outstanding service to the nation”, he wrote.
Significance of Indian Army Day
The highest-ranked military official, the commander-in-chief, is in charge of managing every branch of the nation’s armed forces. General Sir Francis Butcher appointed Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa Chief Commander of the Legion of Merit in 1949. This moment marked a pivotal chapter in India’s post-independence history, solidifying the nation’s military independence.
Indian Army Day is not only a tribute to the armed forces’ remarkable contributions but also a reminder of their indispensable role in ensuring national security and unity. From protecting borders to assisting in disaster relief, the Indian Army exemplifies resilience, discipline, and dedication.
