Actor Varun Dhawan’s action hero superstardom film Baby John is going through a tough time at the box office. Following a similar scenario with Pushpa 2: The Rule, the film received terrible reviews when it was released on Christmas Day and is only generating average commercial interest among audiences. Pushpa 2, which stars Allu Arjun, has already earned over Rs 1000 crore in India and is still in the running at the box office. Baby John was supposed to continue where Pushpa 2 left off, but it’s likely that Allu Arjun’s movie will earn more on its twenty-first day of release than Baby John did on its first.
According to reports, Baby John has earned only Rs 2 crore with less than 14% occupancy in morning shows across the country. Despite the huge crowd in the afternoon and night shows, the film is still expecting an opening of around Rs 15 crore.Pushpa 2 had earned Rs 14 crore on the 20th day of its release, and it is believed that it may earn a little more as Wednesday is Christmas holiday. Reports say that Baby John sold only around Rs 5 crore worth of tickets in advance for the first day, which is not a good opening.
Producer Atlee has personally assisted in promoting the film, which has been marketed as a pan-India entertainment production. With the success of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan last year, Atlee’s brand has grown significantly. Baby John is a remake of his film Theri, which starred Vijay. The movie is directed by his former associate Kalees, and features Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi in supporting roles.
The horror comedy Bhediya, Varun’s most recent release, which performed poorly at the box office. On the first day of release, the film earned Rs 7 crore. He previously acted in JugJugg Jeeyo, a romantic film that earned Rs 9 crore on its first day of release. Ironically, one of his worst failures is also his biggest opener: Kalank, which made Rs 21 crore on the first day but collapsed later. Dishoom, his final action movie, earned Rs 11 crore on its first day in 2016.
