On the second day, Sunday, digging was started in search of a Bawdi buried in an empty plot a short distance away from the Bankebihari temple in Chandausi’s Muslim-dominated locality Laxman Ganj. DM Rajendra Pansia and SP Krishna Kumar Vishnoi visited the spot and inspected it. The DM said that in the records, the Bawdi is recorded as a pond in an area of 400 square meters.
The step well was built during the time of the king’s maternal grandfather. It has three floors. Two floors are made of marble. The upper floor is made of bricks. It has four rooms along with a well. This step well is said to be 150 years old. The DM said that if needed, a letter will be sent to the State Archaeological Survey team.
It is being told that there is a tunnel going from the stepwell which opens at the Bankebihari temple. The DM said that the temple will be renovated so that people can worship there. For this, encroachment will also be removed.
