Mumbai: Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh performed on Thursday night in Mumbai as part of his Dil-Luminati tour. The Punjabi sensation reacted to an advisory, which was issued to him by the Maharashtra Government ahead of the performance.
The advisory restricted him from performing on songs that promote drugs, violence and alcohol, issued against him. It also prohibited him from making use of children on stage.
Taking to Instagram, team Diljit Dosanjh shared a video where the Punjabi singer expressed that despite the challenges he’s facing, he’s determined to ensure his fans have “double the fun.” Diljit held his highly anticipated Mumbai show on Thursday evening.
“Maine kal poocha apne team se kuch advisory toh nahi hai mere khilaaf. Bola sab thik hai. Aaj subah utha toh pata chala advisory jaari ho chuki hai mere khilaaf. Par aap fikar na kare, saare advisory mere par hai, aap jitna maza karne aayae mai uska double karwaunga (I asked my team if there has been any advisory issued against me. They said none. But today morning when I woke up I saw the advisory. But you don’t worry about. These are for me and I will ensure you have double the fun ), Diljit told the crowd.
Ahead of his concert, the singer was extended a warm welcome by the city’s iconic dabbawalas on Wednesday.
Dabbawalas are an integral part of Mumbai’s food culture. For decades, they have been more than just deliverymen; they’re cultural ambassadors who carry the essence of Mumbai in every meal they transport. Given Dosanjh’s tendency to experience and celebrate the local culture of different Indian cities he has performed in so far, this marks a special occurrence.
A spokesperson of the dabbawalas said, “For over 130 years, we dabbawalas have been delivering more than just tiffins across Mumbai. We’ve been delivering a piece of home, a sense of belonging, and the heart of this city to people everywhere. Over the years, we’ve seen many people come and go, but no one has made an impact quite like Diljit”.
