Indian nationals uprooted from war-torn Syria reached home safely in Delhi on Saturday. Responding to their kind gesture, they praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Embassy for helping them to make it back home, as they appreciated.
Some of the evacuees narrated their experiences and how the embassy acted quickly during the crises. “I had been in Syria for six months, and at the beginning, the condition was perfectly fine. When the war started between the rebels and the government, we first said something to the embassy and some friends. First, they told us to stop as there was a celebration in the area, which could have been dangerous. Three days later, they told us to go away. Before, however, seventy-five people had already been evacuated. I was at the embassy for two days and got well taken care of by them. The embassy contacted my company to let them know that they would provide the tickets for me while 75 others were directly being booked,” he said.
He described the evacuation process of a team and accompanied by the embassy, the two of them were taken to the Lebanon border, given a place to stay at a hotel and the communication was kept open throughout the trip. Thus, the team provided travel to approximately 80-90 people. As for people, it is a very difficult task to evacuate this many people from a conflict zone, which the government did a good job of. It would now be possible to sleep with no disturbances.”
Another evacuee, a Syrian staying in the country for the past of six years, shared the same views. He said this was the first time he faced such a situation in Syria. Our fares, foods and shelter were provided by the Indian Embassy throughout the journey to Lebanon from Damascus. Basically, all the arrangements were good”.
Each evacuee also thanked the embassy stating that the arrangements made where laudable and the support provided by the embassy was also constant even in the disaster. Their evacuation was successful evidenced thus make the government’s commitment to the safety of Indians in foreign nations especially during calamities which are evident.
