Rain again affected the game on the first day of the third cricket Test between India and Australia at the Gabba, and as many as 13.2 overs could be played before the match was called off early. During the opening session, the players were taken off the field twice, with Lunch being the second reason for the interruption. However, chances to resume were cut short by continued rains, which made it impossible for me to come back to the field. In order to make up for the time lost, it has been planned that the other days of the match would begin early.
India, with Rohit Sharma as their captain, chose to bowl first in this very important match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The decision to bowl was because of overcast conditions and a green wicket at the Gabba. There were two changes to the Indian side’s playing eleven for this match. Akash Deep was given his first-team break-up, replacing Harshit Rana, whereas Ravindra Jadeja came back into the playing eleven in place of Ravichandran Ashwin.
During the series, Indian pacers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj began the bowling along with debutant Akash Deep. But they could not develop many chances within as much time as they got because Australian batters Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney found it easy to handle the wicket. But, the duo did not perish and in fact, they were able to play a couple of fours, thus pinning down the Indian bowlers.
The rain interruptions and the lack of really dramatic moments have made the first day a little disappointing in what was promised to be a crucial Test in the series. Michigan and Penn State will both hope to take advantage of the early getaways over the course of the next few days as they seek to set the tone for the showdown.
