Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar degraded Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for delivering a powerful speech against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) where she said that the Sangh Parivar does not govern India’s Constitution. Speaking in the House on Friday, Priyanka said that India has never been in the hands of cowards and launched a severe criticism of the BJP-led central government.
To a large extent, she also underlined the sanctity of the Constitution, noting that it continues to be viewed as the reference to justice, goals, and dreams of the ordinary people. Speaking about the defeat of the BJP in the ensuing 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Priyanka said that the Constitution cannot be abrogated, come what may. She also repeated what Congress had said, namely that there is a nexus between the Union government and the Adani Group, saying, “India thinks this government is for Adani only.”
Priyanka, 52, the latest entrant in the Gandhi family’s parliamentary brigade, fired one straight back at Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for targeting Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. Quoting their success, she said, “Crores are with Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Mohabbat ka Dukan.’” She also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not directly addressing the masses and came up with this jibe for him, “Today’s king is a very fashionable one and makhuwa loves to change his cloths but he cannot dare to speak to the people.”
During the debate that followed to commemorate 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution, the first Opposition member, Priyanka of the DSG, applauded it as the “armor of justice.” She alleged that the BJP had been diluting the Constitution’s provisions by referring to events like Sambhal communal clash, the Unnao rape case, lynching in Agra, and ethnic conflict in Manipur.
Still, to redeem justice, she said, people have been empowered by the Constitution, describing stories of the victims and survivors. Priyanka said that there is an imposition of injustice, unity, and oppression against the Constitution by hailing recent moves by the ruling government to disarm it.
